Absolutely, it was winking at me, but I didn't catch that on camera :>
Crocos I like the shot of the strings, but I agree with the others that it would have been much better if the in-focus area wasn't blurry. Fabian

I mean on the microphone shot Crocos, would have been wicked if the camera was still.

Hmm.. I notice a lot of people seem to be using HDR or something..
what is the general opinion on using it? obviously it makes the picture look better, but I can't help but feel that its cheating :/. |

Hey Flic, great shot, nice close and personal. However for that A+ mark you need to get the front most eye of the animal in focus, it seems to have focused on its side instead
![]() Hopefully taken as constructive criticism ![]()

Wow Madmax, I love that. Its stunning. Would you mind if I used that as wallpaper. It would look awesome on a wall framed. I stared at it for ages.

Thanks Mickey
Yeah - I think it's something special too. Taken on a rainy day in the Harem area of the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul - end of April this year. A high res image can be found here (4+MB). If any one wants to use the image for non-commercial use they are welcome. Anybody else please contact [email protected] http://www.madmaxii.co.nz/turkey/IMG_0384.jpg

Mickey, a bit more info about the photo. Tulips are the flower of Istanbul and this was taken towards the end of the annual Tulip festival, held in April each year. Hence, the slightly drooping and missing heads. It reflected the mood of the day but not the mood of the country. A wonderful place to visit with wonderful people.

The Man... The Movie...

![]() This is a screen grab from my video camera using a 35mm adaptor. Shot with a Canon FD 50mm f1.4 lens. I was casually filming my cat 'Runty' one morning when he was in one of his psycho moods attacking my toes as I sipped my coffee on the front steps, absorbing the morning sun like a reptile, gearing up for my day. Briefly, he looked into the camera with such love and adoration in his eyes which is usually reserved for when he’s hungry and wants feeding. I found this moment in time particularly charming. |

While a nice shot, his "look of love an affection" still looks to me like "I'm gonna cut you up!"

I'm pretty close to buying a Nikon D60 now. Especially since I managed to receive a bit of FREE MONEY, it takes the price down considerably.

SLUTS!!!!!!!

was bored - so I was mucking around at home:
lightbulb fireplace 1 fireplace 2 Lightbulb was shot at a bulb on a dimmer switch, fireplace 1 & 2 are of my fireplace - the 1st being metered off the flames, and the 2nd metered off the wood. Question: what are people's techniques for shooting in conditions like this?

Are you trying to get more light in the image? If so, chuck the camera on tripod or table, put it in Shutter Priority and dial in around 2 sec on f/8, and go from there. Camera metered off the bright flames, giving you a reasonably sharp image of the fire at the expense of dark surround. |

Going into fire I usually go for around ISO 400 or 800. I shoot off three pics using the exposure bracketing function with the camera in Aperture Priority mode (so it's got the depth of field I want), work out by looking at the histograms & the pics (check for blown highlights mainly) what shutter speed I need, switching to manual & transfer the settings, mount on tripod is generally not needed, as you're better to try & slightly underexpose then enhance a little in post, but can be useful if you're wanting to do a HDR or panoramic photo. These two were taken at ISO 800, 1/100 and 1/50 sec respectively. Lens was a Lensbaby 3G @ f2.8, sweet-spot centred to capture the detail on the log. ![]() ![]() I prefer the 1st one, which has a VERY leftward-bias histogram, with a slight blow-out caused by the flame showing over the grate at the bottom. If I wanted more detail of the actual flames themselves, I'd go for higher ISO and shutter, drop the aperture down to 2.0, and clean up any excess noise in post with Noise Ninja.
